Position: Summer Reading Program Coordinator

Didsbury Municipal Library requires an outgoing and enthusiastic employee to our team! Reporting to the Library Manager, this position involves organizing, delivering, and evaluating the library’s Summer Reading Club for 6-12 year olds.

Employment Details

Duration: 16 weeks

Full time: 35 hrs/week, daytime with occasional evenings or weekends required

Wage: $15.00 / hour

Timeline: May 6-August 23, 2019


• Planning, promoting, delivering and evaluating the Summer Reading Club for 6-12 year olds

• Scheduling and delivering school visits to all grades 1-6 classes in the Town of Didsbury

• Coordinating the organization and delivery of SRC events (SRC Open House and SRC Finale)

• Evaluating and assessing the success of the program

• Supervising and mentoring the SRC Assistant

• Delivering excellent customer service at the circulation desk


• Experience working with large groups of children

• Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite; including Word, Excel, and Outlook

• Completion of at least one year in a related post-secondary program (e.g. Education or Early Childhood Development, Library Studies)

• A passion for creating and facilitating innovative programs for children

• Friendly and positive attitude with excellent interpersonal skills

• Organized and detail-oriented

• Lesson planning strengths and time-management skills

• Ability to work independently and take initiative

• Strong public speaking and presentation skills

• Customer service experience

This is a grant funded position and the successful applicant must meet the following criteria:

• are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada (non-Canadians holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible);

• are legally entitled to work in Canada;

• will be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;

• are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;

• will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) during the Young Canada Works (YCW) work assignment;

• have been a full-time high school, college, CEGEP or university student (as defined by their educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW work assignment; and

• intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW work assignment.
